Article Processing Charge

Updated on July 7, 2025

The Iberoamerican Journal of Science Measurement and Communication has established an article processing charge (APC) to support the costs of open access sustainability. The journal's income covers all editorial production costs, such as editing, proofreading, layout and design, hosting, software packages to support editorial processes, memberships, plagiarism checks, DOI assignment, technical service payments, and advertising.

The publication fee is 1000 EUR (1160 USD), payable upon article acceptance. This amount must be paid in full, meaning the authors or the funding institution must bear any bank fees, transfer fees, or currency conversion deductions. The author is responsible for ensuring that the final amount received by the publisher is exactly 1000 EUR net.

Please note that a 24% tax will be applied if you are an EU-based company without a valid VAT number, an Estonian company, or an EU individual.

Payment policy and APC exemptions

  • Authors from countries classified by the World Bank as low-income economies receive a 100% discount.
  • Ukrainian authors will not be charged an APC temporarily due to the Russian invasion.
  • The APC for low-income countries and Ukraine applies if all authors belong to the same country in question and the research relates to that country without funding.
  • The journal will apply the discount automatically, following the guidelines established after the articles are accepted. If authors are unsure whether they are eligible for a discount, they should contact the editorial office before submitting their article or at the time of submission.
  • Authors are only eligible for an APC waiver once per year.
  • The editorial office is solely responsible for granting discounts and establishing payment guidelines for each article. Editors focus exclusively on the merit of the articles, without being influenced by financial considerations.
  • Reviewers who contribute to the journal by completing peer reviews are entitled to a 15% discount as a token of appreciation for their service. The same reviewer may request a discount only once in the current year.
  • Neither the journal nor the publisher has any pre-payment agreements with institutions to pay APCs for specific groups of articles.
  • The journal only publishes original articles and reviews. Both types of articles are subject to the APC. Editorial articles requested on request are not subject to the APC.
  • Post-publication corrections are not subject to payment.

These policies have been developed based on the guidelines established by COPE for author payments and waivers (COPE Council. COPE Guidelines: Author fees and waivers — English. DOI: https://doi.org/10.24318/CkhGNJ8Q).

Note: The payment policy may be adjusted in line with significant changes in bank fees, local taxes, or other administrative costs associated with processing international payments. Any changes will be communicated to authors promptly before the invoice is issued.
